Watching the Fiesta  Bowl, and the ad for the new CX30 comes up. It shows first how the car is an insulated oasis of peace from the noisy city, obviously trying to emphasize that Mazda is serious about NVH reduction a la Lincoln.

Then they show this couple driving on and off road and all around as they assemble their new restaurant. The message is that this car is carrying these people through all the destinations of their lives and toward success. The music is well chosen to convey the uplifting feel.

This commercial is so many levels above “zoom zoom” and “driving matters”. I put it more on a level with the Lincoln ads or what Apple does. If this campaign doesn’t increase Mazda sales, I don’t know what can.

It’s what the CX-3 should have been from the beginning. Should be a big hit for Mazda, regardless of advertising .

It’ll be a big hit with shit heads in the Midwest and South. Probably why it played during both NCAA semifinal games. Regions known for their academic excellence.

And yet Mazda’s online builder ends with the worst interior pics of any manufacturer. They’re blurry and most of the interior isn’t visible. It’s sooooo crappy compared to most other car sites. It’s kind of bizarre.

I don’t quite understand why you would click in here for the sole reason of insulting an entire demographic. I mean, you can write whatever you want within reason, but that seemed both mean spirited and gratuitous. It doesn’t even have anything to do with the thread. I just want to have a little fun here.

I haven’t checked lately. That would be a problem.

I hope it does. I love our Mazda, so seeing sales tank worries me. I want them to succeed.

Sorry, the whole white supremacist aspect of the title got me a little bit, the gratuitous amounts of eggnog I had consumed didn’t help.

Understood.  I didn’t know the title. I don’t think that impacts on the ad though, since most of the viewers will never know.

It occurred to me upon sobering up that no watching the commercial would have a clue was Mazda’s Youtube channel titled it.

Gotcha. I was surprised by the title of the ad . I’ve never really thought about manife st destiny as being white supremacist, although now that you put it in that light, there’s definitely some relevance there. I’ve always thought about it in political/entitlement terms.

I always thought of it as imperialism and entitlement mixed together. After the Monroe Doctrine, I thought this was the natural extension. We would have plowed ahead even if there were Europeans in the way.

Imperialism is the word I was looking for, but unable to locate in the dusty co rners of my head- movies. I agree, we would have plowed on regardless. There is merit to the racism argument though. Racism is most definitely used as a tool by militaries of all sorts. T o convince your soldiers it’s OK to kill your enemy, you  make them sub-human.

Yeah, certainly. It’s much easier to fight when you set up an us vs them division. It was also easier to portray the Indians as an inferior race because of their comparative  lack of technological sophistication.
